Chef Jemil Aziz Pops Up at Kraken Congee, Cap Cider Under the Block Party, Vespolina Closes

The word on the street this morning is that the restaurant formerly known as Aragona, now Vespolina, will close its doors on Friday, July 24th. Michael Gallloway, the Business Manager for Vespolina, Cascina Spinasse and Artusi, is quoted in a press release this morning as stating, “…closing a business that we have worked hard to nourish and make successful is very disappointing… and we will look to merge as many employees as possible into Spinasse and Artusi.” And so now there will be a big assed void across from the Four Seasons Hotel and Ethan Stowell’s newly opened Goldfinch Tavern. Let’s hope it can be filled soon with something that appeals to the greater masses.

If you’re craving some good creole cookingthen you may want to take a flyer on this pop up.Chef Jemil Aziz, who hails from New Orleans and operates Jemil’s Big Easy food truck in Seattle, is hosting an event on July 27th at Kraken Congee in Pioneer Square. This four-course meal includes dishes such as Corn Fritters with Crab, Duck and Andouille Gumbo and Flambéed Bananas Foster Bread Pudding served à la mode for dessert. $45 gets you in and there are two seatings at 5:15 and 7:30. Most Seattle denizens know that this upcoming weekend is the Capitol Hill Block Party. Which means thousands of jubilant partygoers will invade the streets in celebration. But if you want some respite (and air conditioning) from the crowds then check out Capitol Cider’s Under the Block Party in their downstairs lounge. They’ll have no-cover live music all weekend long featuring artists such as Falon Sierra and Holy Pistola.

And if you’ve been missing Seastar Restaurant in Bellevue for the past couple of weeks you’ll be happy to know that they’ve re-opened and are back in full swing with several new menu additions. The kitchen space has been completely renovated and the chefs are taking advantage with some new creations including Hawaiian Fish with Cucumber Macadamia Nut Relish, Grilled Halibut with Mango Mojito Dressing and Grilled Pancetta Wrapped Shrimp. Next up from John Howie – the long awaited opening of Beardslee Public House in Bothell coming soon.
