The largest independent cider bar in the country, Capitol Cider occupies two floors in a 100+-year old building in the heart of Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, just a mile from Pike Place Market. This restaurant, full bar and bottleshop offer an extraordinary selection of ciders on tap, in bottles and in flights.

The kitchen at Capitol Cider is 100% gluten free, and creates a bounty of delicious gourmet comfort food using seasonal and local produce.  Capitol Cider is open for lunch on weekdays, brunch on the weekends, and dinner and late night dining every day of the week.

Downstairs in The Ballast Bar, we offer a regular event lineup with live music, art and literature nights, movies, game night and more. In addition to the small stage and arts programming, you’ll find two shuffleboard tables, a bookcase full of board games, a fireplace and roomy booths and communal tables.  Several large TVs can air special cultural and sporting events (but are otherwise not on).We love supporting local artists and serving as a gathering place for the community. Check out our  Event Calendar for this month’s listings.

Our Story

Capitol Cider was created and built in the style of a public house. We envisioned a warm and welcoming place for people to gather, share, savor and commune. The dark panelling, master copy collection of famous paintings, old books and period architectural elements hearken back to another time — when the distance between The Old World and The New World was measured by the time it took for a ship to sail between the two.

We also founded Capitol Cider with a commitment to offer an extensive and thoughtfully curated list of beverages for you to learn about and explore.  Our highly trained staff are here to help you navigate and learn about the world of cider and apple spirits; our cider flight program provides an easy introduction to our extensive bottle list, and the many varieties of cider therein.

We invite you to visit — come soak up the art while sipping cider and eating steak frites, or head downstairs for live music, an art talk, or board games. We have cozy nooks if you’re looking for a place for date night; and our large booths and communal tables are designed with a gang of friends and family in mind. Everyone is welcome at Capitol Cider.  The Ballast Bar is 21+ only.  Both floors are ADA accessible.

Make Love To The Apple

We’re not just about cider.  Despite our name, we are about everything “apple.”  Yes, we have an incredible selection of ciders — 20 constantly rotating cider taps, over 200+ ciders in bottles from the region, the U.S., and abroad, and 4 cider flights daily from our bottle list. But in addition, we also house one of the largest collections of Calvados and other apple-based spirits in the city, along with a broad selection of iced ciders, pommeau, and fortified apple wines.   We offer 3 additional dessert flights daily from these products.  In total, we offer nine cider & apple based spirit flights daily including an international flight off our taps.

In addition, our Chef, Matthew Woolen, makes love to the apple daily — using apples and cider to marinate, braise and create sauces; fresh apples in salad; apple cider vinegar in dressings; and housemade apple butter atop housemade cheesecake.

So come on in, and Make Love to the Apple. . . .
